The endocannabinoid (i.e. endogenous cannabinoid) system is increasingly recognized as an important regulator of many physiological systems and functions. People who frequently use products derived from Cannabis sativa L. are exposed to exogenous cannabinoids. The influence of this exogenous exposure on the endocannabinoid system is unclear. In this project we will explore the endocannabinoid response to a standardized stimulus, moderate-intensity treadmill exercise, in people who do and do not regularly use cannabis products.  In addition, we will determine if a short-term break (7-days) from using cannabis products will influence the endocannabinoid response to exercise in people who regularly use cannabis.  Our long-term goal is to increase our understanding of the physiological determinants of endocannabinoid system function.
